Installing MSC.Patran on UNIX and LINUX
MSC.Patran CATIA Access Setup
The MSC.Patran CATIA Access consists of two components:
• CATXPRES which installs into the CATIA interface. It is developed by
MSC.Software Corporation, and is a supported Graphics Interactive
Preference (GII) function in the Dassault Systemes’ CATIA product.
• CATIA Access which is a module installed into the MSC.Patran interface.
The CATXPRES utility is accessed from within the CATIA interface and exports an
express neutral file. This file is read into MSC.Patran, under File|Import in the
MSC.Patran interface, by MSC.Patran CATIA Access.
TheMSC.PatranCATIA Accessand CATXPRESproducts areindependent fromeach
other,andtheyare licensedseparately.MSC.Patran CATIAAccessisdeliveredon the
MSC.Patran CD-ROM while CATXPRES is delivered on a separate CD-ROM.
CATXPRES uses the NetLS licensing system while MSC.Patran CATIA Access uses
the FLEXlm licensing system. MSC.Patran CATIA may be licensed and installed on
anyworkstation,anditdoesnotneedCATXPREStobelicensedonthesamemachine,
or in the same network.
The instructions for installing and using CATXPRES are documented in the
CATXPRES Installation Manual delivered with that product.
MSC.PatranCATIA Access differsfrom CATDirectinthatitrequires thesetwosteps,
but offersthe advantage thatthe steps can beexecuted on separate machines(i.e. one
running CATIA and the other running MSC.PATRAN). CATDirect translates a
CATIApart filedirectly intothe MSC.Patraninterface, butrequiresalocallyavailable
installation of CATIA . See MSC.Patran CATDirect Setup (p. 59) for more
information on the CATDirect product.
