Installing MSC.Patran on UNIX and LINUX
Mounting the CD-ROM
The CD-ROM mount procedure may vary depending on the setup of your operating
system. These steps represent a general mounting procedure. Tools to simplify the
processare oftenavailableas partofuserenvironment packagessuchasthe Common
Desktop Environment (CDE) or SGI’s 4DWM. Consult your operating system
documentation for the best method of mounting CD-ROM devices.
1. Create a directoryfor the CD-ROM, if it does not alreadyexist (not required
for LINUX installations):
# mkdir /CDROM
2. Mount the CD-ROM drive by issuing one of the following commands:
Compaq Tru64: # mount -t cdfs /dev/rz
U
A
/CDROM
where
U = CD-ROM unit,
A
= a or c.
HP 10.x: # mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t
Ud0 /CDROM
where
U = the SCSI controller id for the CD-ROM drive
IBM: # mount -rv cdrfs /dev/cd0 /CDROM
SGI: # mount -rt iso9660 /dev/scsi/sc
CdUl0 /CDROM
where
C = the SCSI controller id and U = CD-ROM unit id. These
values can be found by entering the command,
/bin/hinv.
NOTE: The “
l” in scCdUl0 is the lowercase letter “L” not the
numeral.
Sun Solaris: You do not need to enter a mount command, since the MSC.Patran
CD-ROM will automatically be mounted by the Solaris vold
daemon. The actual mount point is specified in the file,
/etc/vold.conf, which by default, is /cdrom/cdrom0. If this
directory does not appear after inserting the CD-ROM, make sure
the vold daemon is running.
LINUX: The MSC.Patran CD-Rom should mount automatically. If it does
not, try one of the following commands:
# mount /mnt/cdrom
# mount /dev/cdrom
LINUX provides a “user” option for mounting that allows non-root
users to mount a CD-ROM.This option prohibits direct execution of
CD-ROMresident files.Ifwhenattempting toexecute mscsetupyou
receive a “Permission Denied” error, you must remount the CD-
ROM with the following command:
# mount -o exec /mnt/cdrom
