2.1 The mscinfo Utility

MSC.Patranprovidesautilityforobtainingimportantsysteminformation.Thisutility

provides information on most of the system requirements used in this chapter and is

a useful diagnostic toolwhencontacting MSC CustomerSupport.Themscinfo utility

exists as a separate executable on UNIX platforms. On the Windows NT platform

mscinfo is built into the

setup.exe program, and the utility

Start\Programs\Administrative Tools\Windows NT Diagnostics

provides equivalent information.

The mscinfo utility is part of the MSC.Patran Core Files installation. You will only

have access to it after you have installed MSC.Patran. To run the utility, enter:

>/patran

nnnn

/bin/mscinfo

The following table describes the options that can be used to access various

subsets of information provided by the mscinfo utility.

Important: The information below applies only to the separate UNIX executable.

Important: You must have root privilege to obtain complete graphics and virtual

memory information on Hewlett Packard HP-UX or Compaq Tru64

systems. Running as a general user provides all other data.

Table 2-1 mscinfo Utility Option Flags

mscinfo Option Use

mscinfo -x Displays information pertaining to the current

Xserver. Must be executed on the graphics head of the

system (i.e. not from a remote login or Xterminal).

mscinfo -v Verbose mode - provides additional information on

graphics libraries such as name, patch, or revision

date.

mscinfo -commands Displays a list of the commands used to determine

system information.
