4.1 Overview
MSC.Patran on Windows NT uses an interactive installation Wizard. This section
describes the use of that utility as well as additional steps which may be required for
modules and external programs.
Known Limitations. MSC has made every attempt to offer quality software on
Microsoft’s WindowsNT operatingsystem. Thefollowingare known limitationsand
differences between MSC.Patran on Windows NT and MSC.Patran on UNIX:
When you import a Pro Engineer file into MSC.Patran on Windows NT, a
Pro/Engineer process window is created. This process window does not
automatically close when the import is successfully completed. You must
manually close the process window for each Pro Engineer part file.
To inputUnigraphicsPart files,youmust usetheNTFS filesystemtype (not
FAT).
WiththeNTdisplaysettolargefonts,orwiththedesktopschemesettolarge
fonts, some forms may have spacing problems.
As per the Windows NT specification frame labels appear as part of the
frame, this may change button placement on user-written PCL forms when
compared to UNIX
The history window does not have a horizontal scrollbar on Windows NT.
To see long session commands, select them in the history window and they
will appear in the command line. Use the arrow keys to scroll along the
command line.
Several window related functions available on UNIX such as Window
Layering, Hide Icon, and Main Form Preferences are not applicable to the
Windows environment and are not available on Window NT.
The PCL function ui_set_fixedfont is not available on Windows NT.
Since menus and icons are dockable toolbars on Windows NT, F1 context
sensitivehelpworksonlyforapplicationforms.UsetheHelpmenutoaccess
online help for toolbars.
MSC.Patran diagnostics do not display to a DOS window by default. See
Command Line Arguments (p. 107) for information on the -stdout
argument.
CGM graphics output is not supported on Windows NT
Modules and Products Available on Windows NT. The following analysis
products, Analysis Preferences, and CAD Access modules are NOT currently
available on the Windows NT platform. Check with your sales representative for the
latest product information.
