3.4 Optional Steps
Installing PCL Utilities on UNIX and LINUX
The PCL Utilities (formerly known as Shareware) are available on the MSC.Patran
CD-ROM.Loaditlikeanyotherproductset.SeeSelecting Products (p. 41).ThePCL
Utilities are a subset of the MSC.Patran Core Application. The utilities will be loaded
with a full installation and are an option with the custom installation.
After installing the software, copy the supplied
p3epilog.pcl file to the users home
directories or the
<inst>/patran
nn
directory as follows (see The p3epilog.pcl File
(p. 106) for additional information):
# cp <inst>/patran
nn
/shareware/msc/unsupported/utilities/p3epilog.pcl
.
Alternatively, if you already have a p3epilog.pcl file that calls custom PCL functions,
you can simply add the following line:
!! INPUT
<inst>/patran
nn
/shareware/msc/unsupported/utilities/p3epilog.pcl
Activating Ansys and Abaqus Input File Import Utilities
MSC.PatranisdeliveredwithsharewareutilitiesthatallowthereadingofABQUSand
Ansys input decks. To activate the menu items on the Analysis forms for these
utilities, you must place the following line in the settings.pcl file. For additional
information see The settings.pcl File (p. 102)
pref_env_set_logical( “shareware_input_file”,TRUE )
Installing MSC Institute Files on UNIX and LINUX
MSC Institute Courseware is installed from the separate Online Documentation CD-
ROM. Execute mscsetup on that CD-ROM. The MSC Institute Courseware files do
not require installation of the p3epilog.pcl file or other special installation steps.
Customizing dbaccess Scripts on LINUX
The compile scripts for MSC.Patran dbaccess programming include paths to the C
or FORTRAN runtime compiler library. This may vary from installation to
installation.
