MSC.Patran Analysis Preferences Setup

The MSC.Patran Analysis Preferences, which include the MSC.Nastran Preference,

MSC.Marc Preference, ABAQUS Preference, etc. allow MSC.Patran to integrate with

external analysis software.

Each preference requires environment variables that define the location of external

analysis executables, file types, etc. These environment variables are set by the

mscsetup utility during the installation procedure. To modify these variables or set

new ones, see Environment Variables (p. 92) for information on the

site_setup file.

MSC.Patran Custom Database Conversion

As of MSC.Patran v2001, a copy of the template database must be referenced when

convertingpre-v2001databasesuptothecurrentversion.Sincetemplatedatabasesfor

the MSC.Patran LS-DYNA3D, PAMCRASH, and SAMCEF Preferences must be

manuallycreated(seeCreating Custom Template Databases (p. 111)),thefollowing

environment variables are provided to refrence the template database if a name or

location other than the default of

P3_HOME\template.db is used.

% setenv P3CONVERT2001R1_TEMPLATE <template_name.db>

% setenv P3CONVERT20001R1_UPGRADE <template_name.db>

and how to set them using the site_setup file, see Environment Variables (p. 92).

Important: The MSC.Patran LS-DYNA3D Preference and MSC.Patran

LS-DYNA3D Preference must be manuallyloaded into the MSC.Patran

database. For additional details on this procedure, see Creating

Custom Template Databases (p. 111).
