7-2 Printers
553-4001-111 Standard 1.0 March 1997
The serial port gender of each printer is a female DB-25 with the exception
of the LaserJet 4 Plus. The LaserJet 4 Plus serial port gender is a female
DB-9 requiring a 25- to 9-pin serial cable adapter. This adapter can be
obtained through HP or one of its distributors.
Obtain the installation instructions from the user’s manual for your printer.
Ensure that the settings for your printer(s) are correct as described here.
Note 1: Before a printer can be fully disconnected, the printer must be
taken off line, and powered off, and the serial interface connector
removed. Before a printer is connected and powered up, ensure that the
interface is connected and secured, the power cord is installed, the
printer is powered on, and the printer is online.
Note 2: Before a printer can be unplugged, the printer must be taken
off line and then powered off. When plugging in the printer, insert the
plug, power on the printer, and put the printer back online.
Installing a local printer
Local printing provides you with the ability to send a report to a printer
locally attached to a supervisor’s PC workstation running Meridian
Terminal Emulator (MTE).
Use Procedure 7-1 to install a local printer. Before beginning, make sure
your PC is connected to the Meridian MAX system.
Note: Local printers are not assigned through the Meridian MAX
Communication Port Assignment screen. Local printers appear on the
port assignment screen after they are assigned through the local printer
control window shown in Figure 7-2. Local printers should only be
used for small print jobs such as ad hoc printing.
Refer to the Meridian MAX 8 Maintenance and Diagnostics Guide
(NTP 553-4001-811), “Maintenance and administration programs:
system shutdown” chapter, “Configure Meridian MAX system”
section, “MAX Hardware Configuration” subsection, for more
information on the Meridian MAX Communication Port Assignment
screen.
