Keyboard language configuration on PCs
If you are using a language-specific keyboard, you must inform MS-DOS
as to which keyboard you are using. The following example applies to both
Reflection 4+ and MTE.
AUTOEXEC.BAT changes
The following example shows the changes to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in
order to support a language-specific keyboard.
The following example assumes a German keyboard is being used as
specified by the GR option to the KEYB command:
C:\DOS\KEYB GR
Refer to your MS-DOS user guide for the language code for your keyboard.
Code Page 850 configuration
To provide international support (ISO Latin 1) for MTE, some minor
modifications are required to your PC configuration. These changes affect
the MS-DOS files named CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT. In order to
make these changes, you require a text editor such as the MS-DOS editor.
MS-DOS comes with different character sets called code pages. Code pages
are similar to the character sets used in the DEC terminals.
Each code page consists of 256 characters and is assigned a number that
corresponds to a particular country or language. MTE requires your PC to
be configured with Code Page 850 which is a multilingual character set.
If you are using a language-specific keyboard, you need to inform
MS-DOS which keyboard you are using. Refer to the “Keyboard language
configuration on PCs” section for instructions.
The example changes shown below assume that MS-DOS has been
installed in the C:\DOS sub-directory and that the files DISPLAY.SYS and
COUNTRY.SYS are located in the C:\DOS subdirectory.
CONFIG.SYS changes
The following example shows the changes to the CONFIG.SYS file needed
to support the DOS Code Page 850 on a PC.
In this example, the PC is running the code for Germany (country code
049). For your specific country code, refer to your MS-DOS user guide.
