Glossary
ASC The Additional Sense Code is part of the SCSI-2 specication. The additional
sensecode(ASC)eld indicates further information related to the error or
exception condition reported in the sense key eld.
ASCQ Additional Sense Code Qualier is part of the SCSI-2 specication. The
additional sense c od e qualier (ASCQ) indicates detailed information related
to the additional sense code.
Autocl ean Auser-dened mode made on the touch screen graphical user interface by
which the library automatically performs drive cleaning tasks.
Bit The basic unit of data in a binary numbering system (binary digit), represented
bya0ora1. Eightbitsequalsonebyte.
Byte The basic unit of computer memory which is large enough to hold one character.
Calibrate A process used by the library robotics to determine the exact position of storage,
data transfer, and import/export elements.
Check Condition
status
This is part of the SCSI-2 specication. It is notication from the library back to
the host tha t the host needs to check the status of the library. It can indicate a
normal state change such as a door closed, or an error such as a move failure.
CISPR 22 This standard describes the emissions testing methods and test lim its for
information technology equipment, such as computers, ofce machines, or
telecommunications equipment connected to low - voltage power main networks
(<600V). It does not apply to equipment whose primary function is radio
transmission or reception as dened by the International Telecommunications
Union (ITU) Radio Regulations. The object of the standard is to establish uniform
requirements for the conducted and radiated disturbance levels of the equipment
covere d by the standard. Disturbance limits are established for Class A and
Class B equipment, and me asurement metho d s, operating conditions, and
interpretation of results are addressed.
Class A digital
device
Class A equipment is intended for Commercial installation.
Class I laser prod-
uct
Class 1 lasers are products where the power of the laser beam produced (the
accessible emission) is always below the Maximum Permissible Exposure value.
Therefore, for Class 1 lasers the output power is below the level at which it is
believed eye damage will occur. Exposure to the beam of a Class 1 laser will
not result i n eye injury. Class 1 lasers m ay therefore be considered eye safe.
Class II laser prod-
uct
Class 2 lasers are limited to a m aximum output power of 1 mW. A person
receiving an eye exposure from a Class 2 laser, either accidentally or as a result
ofsomeoneelsesdeliberateaction(misuse)willbeprotectedfrominjuryby
their natural blink reex.Thisisanaturalinvoluntaryresponsewhichcausesthe
individual to blink and avert their head thereby terminating the eye exposure.
Cross Linked (CLM)
library
A Cross Linked library comprises two or more standalone libraries that function
as a single system. Additional hardware and specic rmware is required to
form a CLM library .
Elements SCSI designation for any device or bin in the library that can hold a cartridge.
SCSI elements include storage bins, tape drives, load port bins, and the picker.
