only provide limited protection the first time the administrator’s password
is set. In principle, an individual inside the network could capture all
network transmissions and then perform mathematical analyses to
discover the new Administrator Password. Though this is more an
academic than a practical issue, using the Direct Connection option to set
the password for the first time may be advisable if this is a concern.
Direct Connection
Instructions
To connect a management station directly to the firewall follow the steps
below.
1 Disconnect the management station from the local Ethernet network.
2 Attach the Firewall directly to the management station.
To do this, connect a cable from the Ethernet port on the management
stationtotheLANPortoftheFirewall.
3 Switch on the Firewall.
To do this, connect the power adapter to the port on the back labeled
Power.
4 Wait for the Power LED to stop flashing. This takes approximately 90
seconds.
5 Follow the initial configuration steps as described in Chapter 3.
6 Disconnect the management station from the Firewall and reconnect it to
the main Ethernet network.
In some cases, you may have to restart the management station after
reconnecting it.
7 Attach the Firewall to the LAN (see Chapter 3) and continue with
configuration.
