NOTE:
• The zoning templates shown in this section refer to a single domain with DPM pair configurations
that have two or four licensed quads on the DPM. The rules and guidelines described in this section
can be applied to other configurations with multiple domains or DPM pairs with a different number
of licensed quads.
• All examples involving storage related zones in this section will use the HP EVA and HP Command
View EVA. The rules and guidelines described in this section can be applied to configurations
containing other types of multi-controller storage arrays. Zoning for the management station to
the storage device is not discussed.
Dual-fabric device configuration
HP SVSP must be deployed over a dual-fabric SAN configuration. Switches in each network are
required to be from a single vendor, although each fabric can have switches from a different vendor.
As much as possible, the fabrics should be mirror images of each other. In this section the dual-fabric
layout is referred to as the blue-fabric and the red-fabric. From a connectivity point of view, each
zone in the blue-fabric (blue zone) should have a corresponding zone in the red-fabric (red zone) that
contains the same target and initiator devices as well as number of ports for each device. At the
sub-device level, the ports of each component in the device should also be split evenly over the
mirroring fabrics. For example, a host with a single dual-port HBA should have one port mapped to
a red zone and the other port mapped to a blue zone. Similarly, in a dual-controller storage device
with two ports per controller (for example, the HP EVA4400), each controller should have a port
mapped to a red zone and the other mapped to a blue zone. Each device deployed within an HP
SVSP configuration must have at least two physical ports to provide the capability to split the device
symmetrically over the dual-fabric. Figure 5, Figure 6, Figure 7, and Figure 8 show the dual-fabric
device configuration for each HP SVSP device type.

Notice how each DPM quad has a target and initiator on both the red and blue fabrics.
