6.19 Tape Requirements

The 5157 ACL uses ECMA-approved and ANSI proposed-

standard DLTtapecartridges. The DLTtape cartridge is a four

inch square plastic cartridge. According to the media manufacturer,

the cartridge and the medium are designed to withstand 1,000,000

passes and have a shelf life of 30 years or more when properly

stored.

The 5157 ACL uses DLTtape IV cartridges, which contain 1800

feet of tape. The non-compressed capacity of DLTtape IV in an

5157 ACL is 35 GB.

Under average conditions of data compression, these capacities may

be multiplied by two when compression is used.
