If you plan to use an S-VOL that was associated with a host involved in ESAM operations, perform

one of the following operations:

• Execute the device recognition command of the operating system on the host.

• Reboot the host.

This causes the host to recognize the original information of the S-VOL.

Replacing and formatting a quorum disk

When a quorum disk is replaced or formatted, ESAM information in the quorum disk is erased

and operations cannot be continued. The following procedure guides you in deleting and re-adding

the quorum disk ID, as well as releasing and then re-creating the ESAM pairs.

CAUTION: It is important to follow the procedure in this section to avoid host I/O stoppage.

Prerequisite information:

• This procedure can be used on one or more pairs.

• The procedure requires both RAID Manager and Remote Web Console.

• The procedure varies according to the system receiving host I/O, primary or secondary.

Procedure 18 To replace a quorum disk if the P-VOL receives host I/O:

1. Use the multipath software to vary the non-owner path offline.

2. On the primary system, release the pair using the Pairsplit-S command on the P-VOL.

3. On the primary system, make sure that P-VOL status is SMPL.

4. On the primary system, delete the quorum disk ID. If a failure in the quorum disk prevents

deletion, forcibly delete it. See “Forcibly deleting a quorum disk ID” (page 43) for instructions.

5. On the secondary system, delete the quorum disk ID. You can forcibly delete if necessary.

6. On the primary system, perform the Disconnect External Volumes command on the quorum

disk. If the connection to the quorum disk cannot be released due to the failure of the quorum

disk, skip the Disconnect External Volumes operation.

7. On the secondary system, perform the External Storage Disconnect External Volumes command

on the quorum disk. If the connection to the quorum disk cannot be released due to the failure

of the quorum disk, skip the Disconnect External Volumes operation.

8. Replace and format the quorum disk.

9. On the secondary system, perform the Reconnect External Volumes command on the quorum

disk.

10. On the primary system, perform the Reconnect External Volumes command on the quorum

disk.

11. On the primary system, add the quorum disk ID.

12. On the secondary system, add the quorum disk ID.

13. On the primary system, perform the Paircreate(ESAM) command to create the ESAM pair.

14. On both the primary and secondary systems, make sure that the pair volume's Type field is

ESAM.

15. Use the multipath software to vary the non-owner path online.

The following procedure can be performed using RAID Manager and Remote Web Console, or

only Remote Web Console. When either one can be used, be aware that RAID Manager is faster.

Procedure 19 To replace a quorum disk if the secondary system receives host I/O:

1. Stop I/O from the host.

2. On the secondary system, perform the Pairsplit-S command on the P-VOL to release the ESAM

pair.

3. On the secondary system, make sure that P-VOL status is SMPL.
