DLT SRAM Check test
Details/System Performance
test
NOTE: For instructions on how to perform this test, see .
Run the short version of the test when you suspect the drive may be responsible for
CRC errors and want to do a quick test to verify. Run the long version to perform a
more extensive analysis.
When to run
~20 minutes (short version), or up to 1.5 hours (long version).Average duration
You must have a write-enabled tape in the drive, and the drive must be ready before
starting this test or it will fail. Test will overwrite all data on the media.

DDS Media Assessment test
Details/System Performance
test
The DDS Media Assessment test is able to evaluate two aspects of the DDS media:Description
The quality of the data that is written to the media.
The condition of the media itself.
The default operation is to perform a Read Only test, which analyzes the data currently
on the media to ensure that it is written at a high quality.
The other test type is an Overwrite test, which performs a write/read test on the media,
overwriting any data currently on the media. The Overwrite test ensures that the media
can be successfully written to, which will verify whether the media is in good condition.
If the Read Only (data quality assessment) test fails, HP recommends that the media
be checked using the Overwrite test and that the data be re-written.
If the Overwrite (media assessment) test fails, HP recommends that the media be retired.
It should not be used for further backups.
This test can only be run if the drive used has recently passed the DDS Drive Assessment
test, which will ensure that any failures can be specifically attributed to the media.
CAUTION: This test is destructive (if the Test Type option is Overwrite) and will
overwrite data on the media that is present in your device.
NOTE: For instructions on how to perform this test, see “Running tests and
device-specific utilities” (page 29), “Running the tests (CSI)” (page 50) or “Running
tests (CLF)” (page 64).
When to run
Run this test with the Test Type option set to Read Only (default) when you
want to check that the data on tape is of a high quality.
Run this test with the Test Type option set to Overwrite when you want to
check that the media itself is in good condition.
Test times vary greatly depending on drive type, media quality, and options selected.
With the default test options, the average time is approximately 8 minutes for a healthy
drive with a good tape.
