2 Install ating and uninstalling PA
XP
Preparing for installation
Complete the following steps before installing the PA XP CLUI:
1. Installation requirements for the CLUI are the sam e as the installation requirements for the PA XP Host
Agent. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks Performance Advisor Software installation
guide. The installation prerequisites include JRE version 1.4.2_06. The JRE is automatically installed
when you install the PA XP Host Agent on a host.
2. YoumustknowthelocationwhereJREisinstalled.
• In a UNIX environment, if the PA XP host agent is installed, use /opt/sanm g r /jre as the path. If
the PA X P host agent is not installed, use the find /usr /sbin /home /bin /opt –name java or find
/usr /sbin /home /bin /opt –name jre command to determine the location of the JRE.
The exact lo cation can differ between systems, depending on the adm inistrator’s preference.
We will use everything from this path prior to the bin directory.
• In a Windows environment, use the Find utility to determine the location of jre.exe or
java.exe. Enter this location, minus the bin directory, in the environment variable called
JA VA_HOME .
In most instances, the jre.exe or java.exe command is in a pa th that looks similar to the
following: c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_01\bin\java.exe.
When entering this path in the JAVA_ H OME variable, enter everything except \bin\java.exe. If the
command is found in a path that does not have a bin directory, enter everything except \java.exe.
You can create or update this environment variable in the system control panel.
3. SelectthelocationwhereyouwanttoinstallthePAXPCLUI.Thefollowingarethedefaultlocations:
• Windows: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Performance Advisor\
• AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Sun: /opt/xppa
A variable at the top of the install script holds this location. Edit this variable if you want to install
the software in a different directory.
4. Ensure that you have administrative privileges on the PA XP management station. For a list of default
values, see the PA XP documentation.
5. Ensure that the manag em ent station you want to connect to has a web server on which SSL is
installed and configure d.
TIP:
On a U NIX-based system, CLUI supports only the following terminals: xterm, hpterm, and ansi.
Installing PA XP
The C LUI is packa ged as a UNIX .tar file, which can also be managed by WinZip. To unpack the
UNIX .tar file and install the CLUI, complete the following steps:
