Backup solutions

The Direct Backup Engine feature of the HP Surestore Disk Array XP with

use of a backup application provides “server-free” backup solutions

between the disk array and backup devices such as tape devices and disk

devices. Direct Backup Engine enables nondisruptive backup directly from

disk to tape (or disk) in a storage area network (SAN) environment,

eliminating server CPU and I/O overhead during actual movement of data

and shortening the time required for backups. Users can perform copy

(backup) operations on the data (in unit of blocks) stored on the

multiplatform XP disk array via fibre-channel interfaces by copying the

data directly onto the users' backup devices (such as tape devices and

disk).
