Figure 7 The Extent List

The extent list provides the following:

• Extent ID: Extent numbers. Extents are indicated by the following icons.

• Attribute: The extent’s access attribute.

• LBA: The number on the left of the hyphen indicates the extent’s starting address. The number on the

right of the hyphen indicates the extent’s ending address.

• Capacity: The extent’s capacity. The unit is megabytes (MB) and the capacity is shown to two decimal

places. An extent’s minimum capacity is 8 MB.

• Retention Term: The period (in days) when you cannot change the access attribute to Read/Write.

When you cannot change the access attribute indefinitely, Unlimited appears. When the access

attribute is Read/Write, a hyphen (-) appears.

NOTE: You can use RAID Manager XP to extend the extent’s retention term, but not shorten the

retention term. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks RAID Manager XP User’s Guide.

• Status: Status of shredding extents. Shredding appears when shredding is being performed. If the

shredding fails, Shredding Failed appears. When shredding is not performed, a hyphen (-) appears.

You need RAID Manager XP to shred extents.

• Progress: Progress of shredding extents. When no shredding process is running, a hyphen (-) appears.
