Although HP DAT 72x10 Tape Autoloaders are fully backward compatible, old tape formats are more
abrasive than later generations and using older tape formats can reduce the life expectancy of the device.
Magazines
The HP StorageWorks DAT 72x10 1U Tape Autoloader has t wo removable magazines. For safety
reasons, the robotic motion is stopped when a magazine is removed. You will not be able to use the
autoloader until you have replaced the magazine correctly.
The magazines can be released using the Operator Control Panel (OCP) or by a manual release.
HP
recommends that you release the magazine using the OCP. The magazine must only be
removed manually when the O CP process has failed, or the autoloader no longer has power. See
“Releasing the magazines manually” on page 56.
Theslotnumbering scheme is shownin Figure 14 for the left magazine, and Figure 15 for the right
magazine.

Inserting car tridges in a magazine
1. Push the cartridge gently into the magazine slot. It will click when it is seated properly.
2. When the magazine is fully loaded, shake it gently. All cartridges should remain securely seated
and
flushwiththe end stops.
