6 Continuous Access Journal Z operations

You use the CLI to load spreadsheets for Cnt Ac-J Z.

For more information about installing the CLI and the commands used to process spreadsheets,

see “Command Line Interface Installation and Commands” (page 9)

Continuous Access Journal Z spreadsheet tasks

You can use Cnt Ac-J Z spreadsheets to do the following tasks:

• Get pair definitions.

• Add pairs.

• Suspend pairs.

• Resynchronize pairs.

• Release pairs.

Prerequisites

Before using spreadsheets in Cnt Ac-J Z, ensure you have met the following prerequisites:

• A master journal exists.

• The secondary storage system is registered.

• The remote journal exists.

• CLI and accompanying third-party files are installed.

• You have the appropriate permissions.

• All resource group IDs that are set to the storage system are assigned to the user ID referenced

in the user authentication file of the RWC CLI.

For more information on installing the CLI files and changing user permissions, see “Command

Line Interface Installation and Commands” (page 9).

The following is a list of the caveats:

• If you specify data volumes other than the Cnt Ac-J Z data volumes or if you specify data

volumes for the SuspendPair and ResumePair operation tags, an error can occur. The

pair operations defined by other tags in the same spreadsheet cannot run.

When an error occurs, use the Pair operation tag or the GUI Pair Operation window to

check the volume status. If a pair operations does not complete because of an error, create

the spreadsheet and then process the spreadsheet again.

• If an error occurs when verifying or performing tasks with a spreadsheet, use the error code

to determine the necessary operations you must complete. For example, if the pair operation

did not work properly, create the spreadsheet again, and try the pair operation again.

Workflow for CLI-based spreadsheets in Continuous Access Journal Z

Use the following workflow to work with CLI-based spreadsheets in Cnt Ac-J Z:

1. Make a copy of the spreadsheet template from the tools folder. Save it with a unique name

to a working folder or the desktop.

For more information on locating the tools folder, see “CLI command file locations” (page 11).

2. Do the following until no errors exist:
